Its either in need of transmission fluid a fluid change or the bands are strechted
Actually , starting in 2002 , the Ford Explorer 4 door doesn't have an automatic transmission fluid dipstick
I could be wrong, but I don't think you have one; if you do it would be near the trans pan. If your transmission is shifting poorly I would change the filter and fluid.
The switch is in the cargo compartment , on the drivers side , behind the plastic panel where your tire jack and rear window washer fluid reservoir is ( on a 1995 Ford Explorer Limited )
bepends on the year but most of the time tranny slippage if it happes wile driving and you are in od. if it happens when you put it into gear the fluid might be low or not the correct type
where does the wiper fluid go in a expedition ======================================================== In a Ford Expedition : The windshield washer fluid reservoir for the windshield ( located in the engine compartment ) also supplies the rear liftgate
DOT 3 brake fluid ( meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A )
If you drain the Trans. AND Torque Converter you will need 10-12 QTS. of fluid
I have a 2000 with the same problem. It sounds like the 4-Hi is engaged, but its not. In searching for answers I found two possible, though I haven't tried them yet. 1. Change the fluid in the transfer case 2. Bad hub/bearing assembly.
Leaking heater core. It will need to be replaced.
On the Passengers side rear of the engine compartment you will see a red oil dipstick. That's where you refill and check the Transmmision oil.
Starting with the ( 1997 ) model year of the Ford Explorer , the washer fluid for the rear liftgate window is also supplied by the reservoir in your engine compartment ( that is used for the front windshield )
