You put in what the owner's manual recommends. Contrary to what aftermarket coolant manufacturers say, there is no such thing as a universal coolant. Put in the wrong stuff and you can damage water pump seals and create enough electrolysis to eat up your heater core. It's much cheaper to buy the right coolant the first time around.

According to the 1997 Ford F-150 owners manual : It would have come with green colored antifreeze from the factory ( meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A )

A 2000 Buick uses Dexcool.
A 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse uses any good general-purpose antifreeze. Look for the type that is labeled for any make and model.
Up to 1999 is green After 2000 is red
