What electron configuration do atoms acheieve by sharing electrons form covalent bonds?

They achieve the electron configuration of a noble gas.

A covalent bond is formed as the results of?

Covalent bonds are formed between atoms by sharing their valence shell electrons. In most cases non metals form covalent bonds. Exceptions exist including gaseous sodium Na2 and diethylzinc (C2H5)2Zn.

A chlorine atom reacts with a sodium atom to form sodium chloride, NaCl. A chlorine atom can also react with another chlorine atom to form a chlorine molecule, Cl2. Which statement BEST explains the behavior of chlorine in these two reactions?

A chlorine atom can form ionic bonds by accepting an electron and covalent bonds by sharing electrons.

What determines whether or not an atom will form bonds?

Two oxygen atoms combine to form a molecule by sharing electrons

What role do valence electrons play in the formation of bonds-?

The valence electron are involved in the sharing of electrons with the other atoms to form ionic bonds.

What can people use to discuss theories of how and why atoms form bonds?

People can use electronegativity and energy to discuss theories of how and why atoms form bonds. Atoms will only form bonds if it is a lower energy state for them to be in. Bonds are formed by electron sharing.

How many covalent bond does carbon form?

Carbon can form 4 covalent bonds as in methane. A covalent bond is formed by sharing of 2 electrons. as in methane 4 electron from carbon forms abond with 4hydrogen atom which donates 4 electron to form 4 covalent bonds

What does chemically joined mean?

Atoms form bonds by sharing electrons or gaining or losing electrons to other atoms. For example:Carbon forms bonds by sharing four electrons with other atoms.Sodium forms bonds by losing an electron to another atom - that makes sodium positive and the atom such as chlorine that gains the electron positive - so a bond is formed.Chemically joined means that bonds are formed between atoms.

When atoms complete their outer electron shell by sharing electron they form?

Covalent bonds

Will fluorine form bonds?

Fluorine gains an electron. Fluorine is very reactive and will form bonds.
