Bacteria can grow, multiply in aproxx 20 mins, given the right conditions. They divide into 4 in 20 mins, then they keep dividing further. They're all around us.

So, then why isn't the earth fully covered with bacteria? this is because the conditions are rarely optimum.

Bacteria need culture medium with the necessary energy source, nutrients, pH, and temperature. (scientists alter these to grow them)

The environment of the bacteria will limit their growth. There is competition from other bacteria, the amount of food, water and whatever else is in the area. Antibiotics affects them in different ways by slowing their growth or by actually killing them. Ask yourself, what limits the number of rabbits in the natural environment. The answer to that will be the same, except on a larger scale.
