Well, options vary depending on customer specifications. For a line haul tractor, the displacement may be anywhere from 12 to 16 litres. In the US, they're universally in an inline-six configuration. Since Caterpillar is no longer in the highway diesel market, and Detroit Diesel motors are no longer available for non-Daimler A.G. products (Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Western Star, Sterling), most manufacturers have gone to proprietary motors, and leave the Cummins ISX as an available option. Most proprietary motors are in the vicinity of 12 - 13 litres. The PACCAR MX (available only on PACCAR products, such as Peterbilt and Kenworth) has a 12.7 litre displacement. The International MaxxForce 13 has a 12.8 litre displacement. The Volvo VE D series is available in many different sizes.

Horsepower? Depending on what exactly the truck is used for, what speed it's optimised for, etc., it may be anywhere from 350 to over 600 horsepower.

Current manufacturers include:

Detroit Diesel (the motor currently marketed as the DD13 was originally marketed as the Mercedes-Benz MBE4000)

Cummins (ISX, ISM)

Volvo (VE D12, VE D13, VE D15, VE D16)

Navistar Internatonal (MaxxForce 13)

Paccar (MX)

Mack (MP8, MP10)
