i'm assuming you have a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. code "ka24e" if this is the case normal 10w-30 should be fine, if your engine knocks or there are a lot of miles on it you may want to switch to 10w-40, a heavier oil. I use synthetic blend (a blend of real oil and man made oil) you dont need to do this and the truck has probably been driven long enough for the switch to not make a difference but you can if you want to. as for brands it really doesnt matter and i guess the oil that has the coolest commercial will be fine. be sure to use a good oil filter, not FRAM. step it up for a buck or two
My plugs require .44 gap
It should be a KA24. It's a 12-valve engine that works better for trucks, IMO, than the 16-valve (altima) engine that went in the '98 and later models.

Check your engine. Check your fluid levels and add if needed.

I replaced my 1996 Nissan sentra XE automatic engine for $700 plus shipping. I bought my engine at Japan direct. That was two years ago.
I'd contact a breaker's yard, or an authorized Nissan dealer.
how do you change the tail lights on a 1996 Nissan pick up?
Probably in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
