Phosgene was the worst.
For the soldiers life in the trenches was really tough. The soldiers shared there beds with mice and rats. Also it was not only summer whilst in the trenches it was also winter meaning frequent rain. This made the soldiers lives umbearable and gave them trench foot. Type that into the internet and you will see how horrific life for the soldiers realy was.

Trench Warfare took place most notably in World War I. This type of warfare involved digging trenches (large lines about 12 feet deep) and slowly wearing down the enemy. Trenches were a good shelter from enemy small arms fire and well protected from most artillery strikes. Hope this helped. Type Trench Warfare Wiki into google.
Trench warfare became common in battles during the Great War. Both sides dug trenches to protect soldiers from the enemies small arms fire and artillery.
Most are not. Some people don't like small, fast, rodent-type animals.
This is sort of a vague question but I believe that the trenches were ussually blocking, or gaurding or surrounding, some type of valuable ground or a city. does that help? -student studying WW1
The trenches were very un-hygenic and were a breeding ground for disease. There were many animals and bugs in the trenches. The rats were the size of cats and spread disease as well as often attacking injured or sleeping soldiers. Frogs swam in the puddles and beetles and slugs climbed the sides of the trenches. Because of the wet soldiers often got trench foot, and lice could cause trench fever.
