The wholesale pool supply stores sell paint specially formulated for pools. I don't know about the do-it-tourself stores.

Answ:: In my opinion you would be better off having the pool replastered. k

I agree with "K" that you should have it replastered.

Answer: I agree wholeheartedly. There are pool paints out there that look simply beautiful...in the beginning. But unless you plan on repainting it each year, why waste the time and money. You're much better off to pay $2000-$3000 and replaster the pool so it will last 10 years or more. Even when maintaining the chemistry on a pool, the paint will begin to show round spots and peel off after about a year. I am willing to answer any pool-related questions at www.anjeli-klean.com

What kind of paint should you use on fiberglass pool stairs?

They have special paint just for pools, one that will hold up under the water. For pool steps use a non skid pool paint, or if you can not find any non skid you can add some silica sand to the paint container. Any Paint supply store should have it and some homecenters.

Can you paint the exterior of your above ground pool if so what kind of paint should be used?

You can paint the exterior of your above ground pool. You will first have to clean it and use sand paper to lightly scruff the surface. You should use an exterior primer to prime the surface, and then an exterior paint designed for the type of surface your are painting to paint it.

How do you get flaking epoxy off bottom of cement pool?

From my experience as an inground cement pool owner for 7 years. Drain it and have it sandblasted and repaint with a quality marine/pool paint. I would not recommend the paint sold at your local pool supply store. My pool is 20 x 40 and hold 40,000 gallons of water. The paint I use is from a local company that really doesn't sell to the general public. It costs me around $500 for the paint. I can paint the pool myself. The sandblasting should be done by a professional and should cost anywhere between $1,000 and $1,500. Other than that, I know of no other solution to remove paint chipping from the bottom. I had the same problem and it was causing my water to get very cloudy. I know a lot more about the paint part if you need more info and want to email me.

How do you determine what kind of paint is on your swimming pool?

First you have to determine if is in fact a painted pool. If it is a plaster pool then usually there is no paint unless it was painted because of age and damaged plaster. You most likely do not want to paint a plaster pool - have it acid washed to clean plaster. Not sure how to determine what type paint. You would have to have the paint chips anaylized to determine if it is a chlorinated base paint or epoxy paint. Ken

How do you get rid of the bubbles in a newly painted pool with water in it without hurting the paint job?

Blisters in the paint job? Poor preparation was the result of that. Drain the pool, re-prep the pool walls etc and repaint. Hmm, why did you paint the pool? Was it painted before?
