I have a 1978 corvette and was curious too about the ratios. From what I found on the web they are 3.08:1 for an automatic and 3.36:1 for a manual transmission.
there is no such engine for 1978 you either have L48 or L82.
Mercron transmission fluid is used in a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. Type F fluid can also be used but should not be mixed.
6 degrees for the stock engine, or 8 degrees for California emissions, or 12 degrees if it came with the high performance engine. Standard or automatic transmission is the same.
Most of the time people just used Dexron III automatic transmission fluid. If the fluid in yours is red....or maybe even turned brown I'd bet it is Dex fluid.
Dextron II fluid.
Regarding the A833 Manual Overdrive Transmission.....using Automatic Transmission Fluid as per Dodge's specs ( in a 1978 truck)....ate up the syncro rings in the transmission after about 50,000 miles and eventually seized. I believe this was a short-sighted attempt at increasing fuel efficiency ( lowering gearbox friction ). I have used SAE80 gear oil ever since in these gearboxes ( 1978 and 1889 trucks) with no further problems. Auto Transmission Fluid has no business in these gearboxes. That's a quote from the guy that had to rebuild my '78 gearbox.
Check your owners manual. If you don't have one copy & paste this link. http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservice/en/gloveboxresults
