volcanoes that have large amounts of silica

The most explosive volcanoes are stratovolcanoes with felsic magama that has a high gas content.

A. Shield Volcano- these usually form at hot spots and are like the ones in Hawaii. THey are nonexplosive because the lava is very runny. This would not be the most explosive. B. Cindercone-this would probably be your best bet although they erupt only once during their liftime. They are the smallest type of volcano and have steep sides. When it explodes, it shoots out pyroclastic material. C. Composite Volcano-this is also called a stratovolcano. It has both nonexplosive and explosive eruptions. THey can have many eruptions. IF the cinder cone was not what you were looking for, then this would be your second choice.

Are parasitic cone cinder cone the same?

Parasitic cone volcanos and cinder cone volcanos are not the same when classifying. Cinder cone volcanos are the most popular type of volcano, named for its cone shaped formation. Cinder cone volcano are also considered the smallest type of volcanos and can stand alone or grow on the flanks of other volcanos. The parasitic cone volcanos are similar to the cinder cones, however, the volcano is found on the flanks of other volcanos, hence, the name. It is created by flank eruptions of larger volcanos.

What is a subduction zone and how can you identify whether you live near one?

A subduction zone is the area where an oceanic plate is being pushed downward in a collision with a continental plate. There is usually an offshore trench and several inland volcanos whose eruptions are of the explosive type (due to trapped water in the lava). Another form of subduction zone produces island arcs containing volcanos instead of producing inland volcanos.

Volcanoes typically have the most explosive eruptions?

Large explosive eruptions are generally characteristic of stratovolcanoes.

What type of magma do highly explosive volcanoes have?

Many have rhyolitic magma, which is high in silica. Magma with higher viscosity and higher gas content is the most explosive when released.

What is the most common type of volcano found on Earth?

Volcanoes come in many types, such as scoria volcanoes (mafic, small, not very explosive),shield volcanoes (large, mafic, mild eruptions of large volumes of lava), composite volcanoes (large, traditional cone shape, most deadly), lava domes (felsic, explosive, usually found with other volcanoes), fissures ( lava erups through fractures, mafic), and canderas (steep-walled depression, very large).
