There are controversies as to who invented/started tai chi. Many say that is was founded by a Taoist monk by the name of Zhang Sanfeng. At the same time there are just as many who claim tai chi was started in the Chen village by the martial art masters there. Due to lack of written records there is no exact date as to when tai chi was started. It can only be said it was founded in the mid 1600s.
