King George III ran England at the time of the Revolution. It was his treatment of the colonists, treating them as second class citizens, and not giving the full rights that the average English person had, that led to the Revolution. He selected the English generals to fight the war against the colonists, and he did not negotiate with the colonists in a manner that could bring a compromise and a peaceful end to the conflict. He was a lousy king, and had he treated the colonists better, there might not have been a revolution in the first place. Had he treated the colonists as full equals among English people and given them the same rights as the average English person, there probably would have been no revolution. He treated them like servants and they rebelled.
