President Obama was very little when the Civil Rights Movement was taking place, but he knows he benefited from it. When he was inaugurated as America's first black president in January 2009, he met with some members of the Little Rock Nine to express his admiration and gratitude for what they did for integration.

Not all of them met him. Seven of the nine attended his inauguration in January 2009; two others were ill and could not attend. One member of the Little Rock Nine, Ernest (Ernie) Green already knew Barack Obama-- they first met when Mr. Obama was an Illinois state senator.
