The invasion of mainland Japan would result in 2 more years of fighting and over 1 million American casualties After studying the battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa, this figure was very conservative.
President Truman stated that it was his decision and his only and no other man.
President Johnson held the belief that former US President, Harry Truman had the authority to deploy US troops abroad to protect American interests. He had defended Truman's decision to do this in 1950. Johnson did believe however, that Truman made a mistake by not requesting a congressional resolution to do so. What is of extreme importance in this was that Johnson believed that Truman made a political mistake, it was not a constitutional error.

The Doctrine of Containment. Also called The Truman Doctrine.
Truman inherited it. Communism existed well before WW2, and well before Truman became president. FDR and his vice president (Truman) knew they might have to fight the Communists sooner or later. As it turned out, Truman ended up fighting the Communists 5 years after FDR's death (President Roosevelt died in May 1945). Truman STARTED his policy of containment because George Keenan (our diplomat in Moscow) sent him a message outling the way that the U.S. would be able to contain communism in the Soviet Union. The policy of containment was based off this first outline and it was initiated because we believed that if not stopped communism would take over the world slowly but surely, look at our belief of the Domino Effect in communism.
In ww2 Truman droped the atomic bomb because the Japanese would not surrender.Even though they were running out of troops and supplies they were determined to fight to the dealth because of a thing called the Bushido practice used in Japan at the time. It meant that all Japanese soldiers were supposed to fight until they died. They were never to surrender because they thought if you did that it dishonored your family, and it was a privilage to go and die for the Emporer. So, with that stuck in their minds it took 2 atomic bombs one on Hiroshima killing 140,000 and the other on Nagasaki killing 80,000.But if Truman wouldn't of done it hundreds of thousands of Americans would of died, Truman had a meeting with his cabinet and said they would try the bomb because ir it worked it would help save lives the only otheroption would be to send a million men to try and take over the island of Japan and it would result in the heaviest casualties of the war.So, Truman did it to try and save the lives of his own people both military and civilian from the ruthless Japanese. There is also the belief it was a show of force towards the soviet union.
depression
one way in which they were similar is in their doctrines (Truman Doctrine and Eisenhower Doctrine) they each advocated support for other smaller nations in the case of an attack initiated by a communist nation in their doctrines. one way in which they are different is in their containment policies. Truman had a strong belief in containment and the enforcement of it, but Eisenhower was more involved in worldly affairs (for example, once he got into office, he immediately made moves towards the signing of the ceasefire that ended the Korean War). Oh, and Truman was more liberal, while Eienhower was more conservative.
For a while, but eventually a new atomic model came out that we still use today.
This prolonged the depression.
No, he was protestant but a great Christian and lover of God.
