He was a tall Texan, and he could never properly pronounce Vietnamese names correctly, such as, (which he actually stated, concerning his worry over losing Khe Sanh to GEN Giap, the very same GEN Giap who defeated the French Army at Dien Bien Phu in 1954) "...I'll not have another Den Ben Foo!" (Said with a Texa's drawl!). Contrary to what people think of him today (since he escalated the war in 1965) he actually hated the Vietnam War, it made him sick...and distracted him from his objective of creating a "GREAT SOCIETY" in America. That's what he wanted to be remembered for. He definitely did NOT want to be remembered for the Vietnam War, which is why he quit his office at the end of his term...he wanted no more part of it! In a sad twist of fate; no one knows about his "Great Society", but they do remember Johnson's Vietnam War.
JFK was an easy-going, and fun guy. Every once in a while he lost his cool, but other than that he was cool. He loved the ladies, and every once and a while had his one night stands, until he was married. Then he had two night stands, but you know, nobody's counting. He was only the president of the US.
He was famously ruthless and overbearing (he used his height of 6' 4'' to his advantage), also very ambitious, hard working and narcissistic. He was famed for giving congressmen the "Johnson treatment" in which he would accost them and bombard them with suggestions and persuasion.
He came as a bit of a shock to the Kennedy administration and was often bad tempered and rude to even the most loyal of his aides. He once gave orders to one of his subordinates while sitting on the toilet.
Another time, Johnson was walking across the White House lawn to a heflicopter, and headed for the wrong one. An aide called out "Mr President! That's not your helicopter!" and Johnson replied "Son, they are all my helicopters!".
Johnson was a fiercely proud Texan with a cowboy image. He enjoyed driving around his hometown and ranch in Stonewall, Texas, sometimes charging at speeds as high as 90mph in a Lincoln Continental. He also owned an amphibious car, and as a practical joke, would sometimes drive into a lake to frighten unsuspecting passangers.
