Emo music is highly underground, "dead" if you wish. In '04 - '06 both Dashboard Confessional and My Chemical Romance was labelled emo, but they don't really fit into the genre. Real emo music is stuff like Sunny Day real estate, American Football and Texas is The Reason, but they were active in the '90s.
