The largest general strike in North America exposed the violent colonial attitude Canada had against Western Canada. Canada militarily occupied Winnipeg, killed two people, injured hundreds, arrested innocent people, deported people, and jailed the leaders.
It resulted in the federal government being defeated in the next election. The Conservatives were replaced by the Liberals who brought in new labour laws.
The results of the strike helped create a new political party, the CCF, which is today's NDP, currently Canada's official opposition.
The strike changed labour relations through out Canada and North America leading to more unions, better pay for workers, and a growing economy that reduced income inequality.
The Winnipeg General Strike happened in, of all places, Winnipeg. In fact, that's why it's called the Winnipeg General Strike.
