King John was much more bad than good. The only good that came from his reign is something he didn't want, the Magna Carta. He betrayed his brother, Richard the Lionhearted every chance he got, he probably murdered his nephew and Richard's heir, Arthur of Brittany, he forcibly married a twelve year old who was the fiance of another man, starting a war with France. He lost Anjou and Normandy to the French, got England excommunicated, and annoyed his barons so much, the fought two wars against him.

There's no consensus on whether King John was a good king. Many consider him to have been a bad ruler, but others think he was effective. Regardless of the presence of dissenting opinions, he tends to be portrayed negatively in the media.
