What was life like for the German soldiers in the trenches of world war 1?

It depends on what branch they were in and where they fought. Some German infantrymen fought from the plains of France to the frozen steppes of Russia and in the deserts of North Africa to Italy.

Terrible. Constant gunfire from Snipers and heavy artillery 3" mortars. The smell of poisonous gases, worn out feet, unbathed men, and dead carcass. Also the diseases such as Trench foot, and Trench fever were an on going struggle for the soldiers. Then the lice caused uncontrollable itching and laid eggs in the lining of the clothing. The rats spread disease eatting dead bodies and walking all over the soldiers faces.

For all the soldiers who had to be in a trench it was pretty horrific. When it rained some of the body parts of other dead soldiers (like feet head arm (still attached to the body)) would come out from the walls of the trenches and there were rats everywhere. The floors would on a regular basis get flooded, and there was dirt and mud everywhere. many soldiers would suffer from frost bite and because they weren't able to change socks or shoes when they got wet they suffered horrendously from blisters and bad circulation in their feet.

The front line was even worse. If the front line was out of food or ammo they wouldn't get supplied for a long time due to the complications that comes with smuggling things like that to no mans land.

The Scottish army wore kilts during the wars and had to wear tights to stop the poisons gas from touching their skin and causing so much damage. And it worked!

Hell--full of mud, mustard gas, shrapnel from artillery and grenades, dead bodies, dead horses, etc.

everyone hated the wars because they always have to leve there familys behind. no one liked the trenches, the smells were alfall. every where you looked there were dead bodies. you could see dead animals that had been killed.

The Germans were Victims just like everybody else....They were afraid even of their own children...for they would report them to the Gestapo if they heard their parents say anything bad about the Nazi's or Hitler.

Its hard for us today to fully understand how difficult it was to live in a Country were the State, and the Law itself, ran your everyday life.

One word out of place, and there would be a knock on the door at 3am in the morning, and you would end up in a camp, such as Dachau.....and you MIGHT, just MIGHT GET OUT AGAIN!

Soldiers only spend a small amount of time in the trenches do to the conditions. Trenches were deep narrow holes that where the soldiers ate, slept and in some cases died. During rainy times the trenches filled with water and could lead to infections.
