Best Answer

The line of latitude that marked the Southern border of Missouri.

In the new Western states, slavery would be illegal anywhere North of this parallel, according to the terms of the Missouri Compromise of 1820.

Neither side was fully satisfied with this, but at least they were equally dissatisfied, and this balanced the situation, and kept the peace for thirty years.
