The treaty was criticized because it was considered harsh on Germany and some of its requirements were very unfair, for example reparations were set at an incredibly high amount. Neville Chamberlains policy of appeasement was partially because Britain considered the terms of the treaty unfair and harsh. - Luke :P

This was the treaty that set down conditions for ending WWI.

Some of the conditions were that the German Army and Navy were severely restricted. Size and number of warships, numbers of men in the army, kind of arms that could be built which obviously upset the aristocratic German Officer Corps. Another condition was 'reparations' or payment of money to the victorious nations by the Germans for the cost of the war. Germans felt, or were pushed by Propaganda into believing, that these large sums of money they had to pay was the cause of the depression of the late 1920's and 30's (In the US it is referred to as the 'Great Depression').

Germans of those times criticized the Treaty for those reasons. Others have since criticized it for 'allowing' the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party in Germany and similar things for the rise of Mussolini in Italy and thus the start of WWII.
