36 inches. (in the Appalachian Mountians)
The above answer of 36 inches is incorrect. This total is nowhere near the biggest snowfall to occur in NC. The state record is 60 inches in a single snowfall, and this occured 2 times. Frpm April 2-6, 1987, 60 inches of snow fell on Newfound Gap in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and this total occured again between May 7-9, 1992 on Mt. Pisgah, on the Blue Ridge Parkway below Asheville.
The 36 inch total in the above answer, is merely the greatest snow total in 24 hours, and occured on Mt. Mitchell. But single snowfall totals have exceeded 36 inches MANY times in the mountains. So, the above answer is somewhat misleading.
the most snow Charlotte has seen in one season was in 2004 with over 30 inches in a season. It was also one of the years that Charlotte seen the most snowfall in a 24 hour period.
