Salt marsh on the coast (with sandy beaches on the barrier islands); sand hills in the middle of the state, mountains in the northern part of the state - just like modern SC. About the only real difference is that the state used to be covered by old growth hardwood forests, where nowadays logging has cut those down and replaced them with pines.

The first two colonies the British created in North Carolina did not survive. Later, in the 1600s, settlers that had been living in Virginia moved into North Carolina. The new settlements began to grow and finally became part of the British Carolina Colony.
The climate was warmer than the New England & the Middle colonies. The colonists living in North Carolina usually didn't have to worry about cold winters, but the had to worry about the warm, moist summers that came with many diseases that killed the colonists.
Colonial life in North Carolina was a busy one. Chores for everyone including children, began before dawn. Animals had to be fed, crops had to be tended to, laundry and housework had to be done, and meals had to be cooked.
