Two covenants are mentioned. In Genesis ch.15, God makes a covenant with Abram to give the Holy Land to his descendants. And in Genesis ch.17, God gives Abram the name of Abraham. Abraham is to circumcise himself and his male offspring, and God promises to give the Holy Land to his descendants and to give him an heir through his wife Sarah.
You may read it in Genesis 12. Basically, God gives this old and childless couple, Abram and Sarai a gracious and unconditional promise to make him a great nation and give Him God's blessing. Because he, now Abraham, was faithful and obedient (Genesis 15:6; 22:1-18). He is given a son Ishmael via his wife's servant but it would be Isaac, born to his wife now Sarah, who would inherit these unconditional promises. God swore by Himself that He would do it (Genesis 22:15-18). His word is irrevocable.
As an outward sign, all males were to be circumcised as a sign of children of the covenant.
The second covenant was not made between God and Abraham. It was made between God & Moses at Mount Sinai. This is where the ten commandments originated.
In the Old Testament, the covenant between Yahweh and His people Israel (the Hebrews) progressed through multiple stages, and at least two signs were attached to it. When God called Abraham and established a covenant with Abraham and his descendants, He appointed circumcision as the sign of the covenant: "You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between me and you" (Genesis 17:11 ESV). Circumcision is the most prominent "sign" of the covenant between God and the Hebrews. However, at Mount Sinai, God also established the Sabbath as a sign or token of His covenant with Israel; see Exodus 31:12-18 and Ezekiel 20:11-20. (Earlier on, the rainbow had functioned as the sign of God's covenant with Noah and his family; see Gen. 9:17.)
The symbol of God's covenant with Abraham is circumcision, which was the physical sign of the covenant between God and Abraham's descendants. This practice was to be continued throughout generations as a reminder of God's promises to Abraham and his descendants.
To the land of Canaan.
There was a covenant but it is not exclusive to Judaism. The covenant also applies to Islam. Judaism refers to the descendants of Judah, who was a great-grandson of Abraham. The covenant was broader than just applying to Judah. Ismail was also a son of Abraham and was the ancestor of the Muslim people.
The Abrahamic Covenant.
It tells us that God is loyal to His covenant with Abraham.
The only condition that is mentioned is that Abraham and his descendants be circumcised (Genesis ch.17).
Moses
Yahweh (God) and Abraham.
Abraham lived the covenant out in the bible only on good faith.
Judaism's roots are in the Hebrew religion of Abraham; and in the Israelite religion of Moses. According to tradition, "Judaism" as such began with the covenant between Abraham and God.
