∙ 9y agoComputers are made of circuit boards that do many things inside a steel box with plugs made to hook other things into it. A circuit board is very complicated and it works kind of like the wiring in your house does to make the lights go on. Just like the wiring in your house, the computer's circuit boards do a lot of stuff to make the computer screen show what you want to see.
A computer has a "brain", it's called the motherboard. It too is a circuit board and it directs electricity to the other circuit boards. It also has various circuit boards made for sound, graphics, and memory. All of this is tied together with wiring, just like the different sockets in your house where you plug stuff up.
So what is a circuit board? It is a piece of plastic that has a lot of electrical things glued on it. It has special slots on it that make it fit in special sockets in the computer guts to make it work. If the circuit board breaks or gets burned, the computer won't work. So you have to keep wet things, dust, and bugs out of your computer. Circuit boards are also called "cards". They look like plastic fancy cards.
It's super complicated, but all the circuit boards work together to make the computer do what you want it to do. People have been making machines to help them work faster forever. The abacus was the first computer really. You moved beads on a string to get math answers. The modern computer uses electrons as beads to do the same thing. Electrons are what makes up electricity and what is inside the computer just moves electricity around to get the computer to work.
