Chillicothe was the first and third state capital (1803-1810 and 1812-1816).

Zanesville was the temporary capital from 1810 to 1812. An agreement was reached to establish the capital at Columbus (1816 to present).

*The capital of the Northwest Territory was in Marietta (1788-1799) and moved to Chillicothe (1799-1803).

Chillicothe served as the state capital from the time Ohio was admitted to the union in 1803 until 1810. From 1810 to 1812, Zanesville served as the state capital. Then again from 1812 to 1816, Chillicothe served as the state capital, but in 1816 the capital was moved to Columbus, where it has remained ever since.
