The Ohio State University does not publish a minimum GPA requirement for incoming freshmen.
Better indicators for successful admission include class rank (top 25% or better); degree of difficulty in courses (AP, honors); strong aptitude in specific fields (sports, arts, etc.); diversity (first generation college, race); leadership (in school and the community); and exceeding the minimum requirements for number of classes taken while in high school (science, math, foreign language, etc); and test scores (ACT, SAT).
Note that exceptional cases are considered and it is possible to gain admission with a lower GPA/class rank. For example, if you suffered a personal tragedy or other incident which made it harder for you to complete high school. Also, veterans can apply using the GI benefits form.
Remember that each incoming class is unique as are individual applicants. A rejection for one term does not mean that you will be rejected for future terms. Contact your high school guidance counselor for more information, including the most recent financial aid and eligibility forms.
Finally, the sooner you apply the better your chances are of being accepted.

If you want a physical copy of the roster, go to the sports memorabilia category on eBay and enter "media guide" for the school you are searching for to see what years might be currently for sale. If the year you are searching for is not listed, enter it on favorite searches. They will email you when one is listed. Did the team you are searching for go to a bowl? Search "bowl program" for the year and school.

Here's several ideas: Check the school web site www.mstateathletics.com, Search "Mississippi State game program 1979" (They did'nt go to a bowl that year) on E-bay. "Google" the same phrase, or something close to it. Mississippi State did go to a bowl the following year. They met Nebraska in the Sun Bowl. The '80 Sun Bowl program should be an easy and inexpensive find, if the player you are looking for was an underclassmen in '79............. and.... Fred Collins was the rushing leader, Tony Black was passing leader, and Mardye McDole was their top receiver. They went 3 and 8. McDole still holds season and career receiving records at State.

From what I can see going through the seasons all the way back to 1890, the Buckeyes have had a total of 14* seasons with a losing record. The years with losing records are 1890 (1-3-0), 1893 (4-5-0), 1894 (5-6-0), 1897 (1-7-1), 1898 (3-5-0), 1922 (3-4-0), 1923 (3-4-1), 1924 (2-3-3), 1943 (3-6-0), 1947 (2-6-1), 1959 (3-5-1), 1966 (4-5-0) & 1988 (4-6-1). I have an asterisk because of the 12 wins vacated from the 2010 season, putting the record for 2010 at 0-1-0.

Ohio State has only won one national championship in basketball. That was 1960. What is interesting is they went undefeated in regular season play with Larry Siegfried, Mel Noll, Jerry Lucas, John "Hondo" Havelcheck and Bobby Knight in both the 1961 season and 1962 season but lost to cross state rivals the Cincinnati Bearcats both years in the championship game.
