to stay out of the war except for the Jewish community who was rabidly pro war. roosevelt tried to provoke Germany into war by escorting british cargo ships around, which was in itself was a declaration of war when it didn't work they provoked Japan by oil embargos they cared less about japan as it was a backdoor to Europe.

During all wars, more jobs are created for the war effort. There was a serge of Pro-War opinions and nationalistic views after the Pearl Harbor attack. Before, majority of the U.S. citizens remained in an isolationist state of mind.
