The New England colonies played an important role in the survival of the british colonies. The first college was also founded at Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1636 to give candidates for the ministry a proper theological and scholarly education. Yale was founded in Connecticut in 1701 and was founded by Congregationalists and was also sectarian.
