It was the biggest city in the Mediterranean and also because it had three harbours and the fastest way f traveling in those times was by sea. It was also in the centre of trade and civilisation, hosting the famous library name for it. It was the greatest city in the eastern empire and had about one million inhabitants too. Alexandrina also had great wealth and it's position also made it important. All the harbours there were safe and it was a great place for trade routes ad was therefore excellently placed for trading.

Alexandria remains important to this day as a major Egyptian harbor and the country's second largest city.
