Conditions were horrible. People were packed in there laying down as tight as possible. They had about two inches of personal space. Also they were severely underfed so people kept dying, but when they dies they just layer there and didn't get moved or cleaned
many africans died during the middle passage because of the conditions they were kept in, every one was strapped to the wooden benches tightly so close together, and there were no toilets so the africans had to 'go' where they were, many of them were sick and they had to be sick over there faces. and if one of them caught a desease many of them would catch it also because they were so close together. And if one of them died, imagain being laid next to them :'(
It smelled so bad it would burn your eyes
Most of the African captives died during the middle passage because the passage could take up to several weeks to complete and there was a lack of food and exercise. And where the slaves would be staying was very unhygienic and unsuitable for someone to stay especially a human being.

The middle passage was a terrible experiance for the slaves as they were all chained up lying on wooden pannels which would often have more slaves above them, they we're fed disgusting nasty food and were abused physically and mentaly. They were often exercised and given fresh air once or twice a day and were made to dance etc. They were treated like this for many many weeks, even months. So thats why:) Writen by a 13yr old girl from scotland;D
The middle passage is how slaves got to America - in a stink infested and filthy cargo hold on a slave ship. Many slaves died enroute, making the slaves that made it sell at a higher price because of supply and demand. Many slaves were so weak they could not work and more than likely met an untimely death at the hands of a slaver.
