There were a small number that served in Korea compared to the dozens that served in World War II, but several served in both conflicts. Among the oldest was the comparatively small Motor Minesweeper USS Chatterer (AMS-40), launched in 1944. The ship was later transferred to the Japanese Self Defense Force as a coastal patrol vessel.
The larger Auk-class vessels included USS Swift (AM-122) that cleared mines off Utah beach on D-Day and USS Symbol (AM-123) that swept beaches at Salerno during the invasion of Italy. Both were recommissioned to serve in Korea, notably Symbol, serving for more than two years including coastal patrols. In 1972, Symbol became an ocean patrol vessel for the Mexican Navy and was still active (as the Juan de la Barrera) in 2007.
