Iraqi names would amount to over a hundred thousand; Coalition forces would amount to less than about 500 names. The US lost less than 200 personnel during the campaign. A good portion of those from friendly fire (new hi-tech weapons). There might be a monument (list) in certain VFW posts; check with them. Be advised, the US lost personnel during the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988; the USN warship USS Stark was hit by an Iraqi missile...killing several US Sailors, possibly over 30 crewmen killed. Who ever you speak with, they'll want to know WHICH war in the Gulf you're talking about. Few, if anyone, can confuse Desert Storm with anything else. But everyone gets confused with Golf Wars 1, 2, 3, etc. Know one knows which one was the 1st Gulf War. The United States Military commenced with Operation Desert Storm in January 1991...advise you stick with that (stick with the facts).
There might be a memorial in some VFW chapters. Try contacting them. There were less than 200 US personnel lost during DS; consequently those names could be listed.
See website on the USS Stark (Frigate) which lost nearly 30 US Sailors to an Iraqi missile during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), while patrolling the Persian Gulf.
Less than 200 US personnel died during DS; contact veterans groups or their websites for that information, it's possible they might know them.
Surprisingly, the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991, commonly called the Gulf War in the United States and the Second Gulf War in Arab Countries, was fought in the Persian Gulf, a body of water bordering the nations of Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Iran. The Shatt al Arab is the name of a river in Southwest Asia. It is 120 miles long and located by the mouth of the Persian Gulf, which is also known as the Arabian Gulf.
As the name implies, the Persian Gulf War was fought for control of the Persian Gulf. Most of the modern world runs on oil, and most of the world's oil comes comes out of the Persian Gulf on supertankers. Ergo, the Persian Gulf is a very important body of water which Iraq threatened to take control of in 1990, as Iraq had already done with the neighboring country of Kuwait. The main idea of the Persian Gulf War was to prevent Iraq from gaining a choke hold on the world's oil supply.
