William, duke of Normandy was a better leader because he has more prepared and had better tactics than Harold Godwinson. He was able to adapt to the battle at Hastings, when the Brettons ran from his army he surrounded and killed the group of Saxons who followed them. If Harold had been able to adapt to the battle as well he might have defeated William. Idk ask the people that were there... oh wait............ THEY'RE DEAD!
Harold Godwinson was crowned king of England on January 6th 1066 when Edward the Confessor the king of England had died. Edward the Confessor had fallen into a coma sometime in December and people were worried that he would never wake up(he had not stated his heir yet). Luckily, he briefly woke up to try to get the royals to vote for Harold Godwinson. (they were debating over who should be king next) And... yeah.
It is well believed that Harold Godwinson died by being shot in the eye. But there are other theories. Beside the man being shot in the eye on the bayeux tapestry, there is a man being trampled by a horse. Some historians believe this to be Harold. There is also another theory that he didn't die at all and in fact went into hiding. But he probably got shot in the eye. It's the most likely.
Harold was very unlucky because after coming back to fight Harald Hardrada and the vikings. He met the Normans at a place later called Battle. Harold's men were very tired and exhausted and they definitely weren't ready to fight again so soon. There was also fewer soldiers ( because of the battle at Stamford Bridge ) and the Normans had 2000 men on horseback.
No-one knows the exact answer, however, it is believed that an arrow was shot through his eye, or he could have been stabbed somewhere else in his body. People believe that he was probably stabbed in the eye because there is a scene on the tapestry of a man with an arrow through his left eye, with words that read "Harold Rex interfectus est" which means "Here King Harold dies", but no-one knows for sure whether it is him or not.Harold Godwinson died after being struck in the eye with an arrow by William the Conquerer's Army, the Normans.

Unlikely, he is depicted as being hacked by axes on the Bayeux tapestry.

Edward the Confessor named his wife's brother, Harold, his successor to the throne. However, Harold could not hold on to the throne, and 10 months later he was defeated by William Duke of Normandy (Formally known as William the Bastard) from Normandy, France. Sorry about the inappropriate use of language. xxx All thanks. xxx !SORRY!

AnswerA lot of people believe that Harold died by getting shot in the eye because the Bayeux tapestry shows a picture of this and people who were at the battle claimed it to be true. This is, however, a legend and apart from the Bayeux tapestry, there is virtually no proof that this legend id true. On the picture of Harold being killed on the Bayeux tapestry it features another man who some people think is Harold. It is probably more likely that king Harold was killed in the same way as his soldiers but there is no evidence supporting this. We also do not know who made the Bayeux tapestry as it may have been a French person who wanted William to sound great. It is really your choice what you think but there is more evidence that Harold was shot in the eye.
No, it was an arrow. The actual cause of King Harold's death is unknown. However, while being struck in the eye by an arrow seems a very possible cause of his death, he definitely was not struck in the eye with lightning.
Harold Godwinson was a good king because he was loyal and made great use of being what he was. Harold became king because Edward the conqueror married his sister and he was the closest relative to the throne. but unluckily shortly after he became king he was killed in the battle of Hastings in 1066.
It is not a gospel fact that he was he was killed by an arrow in the eye. The only evidence we have is a figure that may or may not be Harold clutching an arrow over his eye on The Beyeux Tapestry.
