Germany
Germany, Germany, Germany, Germany, and Germany.
During World War I, the peace treaty signed by Germany and Russia in early 1918 affected the remainder of the war and its combatants in several ways. Short-term, it inspired greater confidence in Germany and added to the war-weariness of the Alliance troops. Longer-term, it rebounded quite negatively against Germany, as the failure to win later battles against the Alliance in the West was seen as the final, and decisive, disappointment in the long, excruciating war.
By the early 1900's, Germany had worsening relations with all of the following EXCEPT the Britain.
The Pact was signed by their respective Foreign Ministers, Molotov and von Ribbentrop, in Moscow, in the early morning hours of August 22, 1939. This cleared the way for Hitler's invasion of Poland nine days later, which began WWII in Europe. Two weeks after Hitler invaded Poland from the west, Stalin invaded Poland from the east. The two dictators divided Poland between them down the middle, with the Vistula River as the boundary, in accordance with a secret protocol to the Pact of August 22. Poland was extinguished as a nation. There were a number of secret protocols accompanying the Pact, which made Stalin and Hitler partners for the next two years, until Hitler turned on Stalin. One of the great ironies of history is that the only person on the planet Stalin trusted was Adolph Hitler.
Germany signed a non-agression pact in August 1939 with the Soviet Union. This was known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. The treaty also contained secret clauses for the partition of Poland and established spheres of influence in eastern Europe
