Before the Spaniards the predominant religion in the Philippines were Hindu and Buddhist. Some parts of Mindanao were Muslim and parts of northern Luzon were/are Pagan.

One of the results of colonization by the Spanish was the establishment of their religion, Roman Catholicism. That religion is still predominant today.

The Philippines is one of two predominantly Roman Catholic countries in Asia, the other being East Timor. More than 90% of the population are Christians. About 80% belong to the Roman Catholic Church while the remaining 10% belong to other Christian denominations, such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Seventh Day Adventist, United Church of Christ, Iglesia Ni Cristo, and the Philippine Independent Church.
