The Israelites were promised the land of Canaan by G-d - and that has always been their homeland. After 400 years in exile in Egypt and then 40 year wandering in the desert they conquered the land of Canaan and renamed it the Land of Israel.
According to the Book of Genesis, Israel was the father of the Israelites, or Hebrews. From this it would appear that he was the first Hebrew. He was said to live in Canaan.
Scholars, such as Israel Finkelstein and many others, believe that the Hebrew people coalesced as a nation around 1250 BCE, when they began to settle the formerly largely uninhabited Canaanite hinterland. Ancient Hebrew was closely related to the West Semitic used by the Canaanites and their near neighbours, and much of the early construction and pottery finds in the area occupied by the Hebrew settlers was very similar to Canaanite architecture and pottery. It is very possible that the Hebrews were a breakaway Canaanite group that moved out of the rich Canaanite plains to establish their own society.
Either way, the original homeland of the Hebrews was likely to have been Canaan.

There are many issues, but here are two:Uneducated people still call them Hebrews (instead of Jews).Their homeland is surrounded by Arab enemies, and world opinion usually sides with the Arabs.
They had to cross many things, including the Sea of Reeds, the Sinai Desert, the Negev Desert, and the Jordan River.
