The positive effect was to rid the country of 300 years of autocratic rule by the Romanov clan, especially now that Nicholas II was totally incompetent at running the country. The expected result was that the people of Russia would now have a more democratic form of government in which they would have more freedoms. Too bad for them that it took 69 years and the break up of the Soviet Union before they got any semblance of democracy, because Lenin, Stalin and the rest of the Communist rulers betrayed the ideals of the revolution and became more repressive than the Tsars had ever been.
