Cortez went to Mexico (sent by Spain) to find spices because at this time spices equaled power for countries because everyone wanted them. He didn't find spices but found gold. He found so much gold, it was worth more than all the gold Europe had combined. In order to obtain the gold, he and his men conquered the Aztec Indians. Later he and his men formed an alliance with the Aztecs in order to conquer other Indian tribes to obtain more gold. They wanted the Aztec's help because at the time, the Aztecs had the best weapons. There is a lot more about him that i didn't write but the most significant thing about him is that: HE WAS THE FIRST EUROPEAN TO FIND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GOLD IN THE "NEW WORLDS" WHICH LEAD TO MANY OTHER EUROPEANS (such as De Soto, Pinaeda, Ponce de Leon, Vaca, ect..)WANTING TO GO THERE TO FIND TREASURES WHICH WOULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN EUROPEANS COLONIZING THE NEW WORLD.
Hernando Cortez discovered Mexico which was already inhabited and caused destruction of the Aztec Empire. This made them attain a significant portion of Mexico for the Spanish Empire.
