What was the religion of the people in Virginia when it was founded in 1607?

Anglican...or church of England...which is very similar to Catholicism, except they do not believe the Pope has rule over the people and they believe in divorce.....basically a religion started by King Henry who wanted to divorce a wife. It started other people thinking that the Pope should not have rule over all earthly beings because God gives us all free will and by studying The Bible we can know what He would want us to do and make our choices based on His Word....not on a human controlling everyone.

Virginians were forced to go to church and pay part of their goods to whoever built the church, as a tithe to help pay for it. If you did not go to church, unless a doctor said you were too ill to go, you could be put to death. This is not what God wantes....He wants us to come to Him willingly and wanting to worship Him. This is one of the reasons people fought the Revolutionary War...to be able to have freedom of religion....and for separation of church and state....not in the sense that many people are distorting it to mean today....but to not be killed if you did not do what the person who ruled your county said to do and be forced to go to church and pay what they said to pay for the church. God wants us to willingly tithe to His store house...He says"test Me and see if I will not open up the floodgates of heaven and pour down blessings upon you...if you will obey Me in this" I can testify that this is true because I tithe and I am always cleaning out my closets and cabinets and sharing with others...because I have so much!!!! And by Virginia's standards I am living way below poverty level....but the Lord blesses me in so many ways because I am faithful to Him!!!! Blessing to You!!!!
