The Stamp Act was a British attempt to raise money to fund the presence of British troops in North America. It demanded important documents be printed on paper produced in England and carry a revenue stamp, paid for in British money. Colonists resented this taxation because they were not represented in England's Parliament and had no say in the process. Resistance to the Stamp Act brought the colonists together and presented a strong, united front against such unrepresented taxation. The act was repealed but Britain immediately passed other taxation acts which led to stronger, more organized resistance and ultimately the American Revolution.
