Private Austin Dabney served as an artillery man under Elijah Clarke.

tips you might need to know as well:

  1. he was one of the only if not the only black soldier at The Battle of Kettle Creek in 1779 in which he was badly wounded in the thigh
  2. Giles Harris, a white soldier, took him home to care for the wound
  3. he was also the only black soldier who was granted land due to his bravery and service during the war in 1786 (he was given 50 acres)
  4. he then spent the rest of his life working w/ the Harris family
