MACVSOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observation Group) was comprised of elements from the U.S. Army Special Forces, Air Force, CIA, and Marine Recon Units. It was used as a Joint Unconventional Warfare Task Force. So basically it was a combination of all the services Special Operations at that time. And the official mission of the group was:
"to execute an intensified program of harassment, diversion, political pressure, capture of prisoners, physical destruction, acquisition of intelligence, generation of Propaganda, and diversion of resources, against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam"
