Fort Clatsop was the last encampment of the Lewis and Clark Expedition during the winter of 1805-1806 before they embarked on their return home. Its located along the Lewis and Clark River approx. 5 milkes from Astoria. The explorers began their journey home on March 23, 1806. On July 3, after crossing the Continental Divide, the Corps split into two teams so Lewis could explore the Marias River. Lewis and Clark stayed separated until they reached the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers on August 11. Once reunited, the Corps was able to return home quickly via the Missouri River. They reached St. Louis on September 23, 1806.

What is the value of an 1803 Jefferson nickel?

There is no such thing as an 1803 U.S. nickel. You have a Lewis & Clark commemorative nickel that was minted in 2004. Turn it over and look next to Jefferson's portrait. These are worth exactly 5 cents.

I have a nickel with the president and a ship on the back but can't read the year.?

Turn the coin over; the date is on the front. Your coin is called a "keelboat nickel" and was minted in 2004 as part of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial. It's really a boat rather than a ship and was one of the more recognizable means of transport used by the explorers. The mint strick hundreds of millions of Lewis and Clark nickels and nearly all were saved from circulation. They don't have a lot of extra value unless you have a special proof version from the San Francisco Mint. Even then it may only be worth $2 to $5.

What Native American woman served as a guide on the Lewis and Clark expedition?

Sacagawea. In 1803 Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were given a mandate by President Thomas Jefferson to find a route west to the Pacific Ocean. In preparation for their expedition, Lewis and Clark moved into Fort Mandan. They soon hired Charbonneau as an interpreter for their expedition and as a bonus, Charbonneau's Shoshone/Hidatsa wife, Sacagawea, would accompany the expedition west. On February 11, 1805, shortly before the expedition was to set out, Sacagawea gave birth to her first child, a son. He was named Jean Baptiste Charbonneau and though not quite two months old at the onset of the expedition, the baby accompanied the group the entire way to the Pacific and back. While Sacagawea became known as the Corps of Discovery's guide in many history books, in actuality she was part interpreter, part peacekeeper, and part horse trader. Since Sacagawea knew both the Shoshone and Hidatsa languages, she translated the Shoshone into Hidatsa by speaking to her husband. He in turn translated the Hidatsa into French for the rest of the expedition.

What is the value of an 1803 US coin?

If your coin is a nickel please turn it over. The minting date is 2004, on the front. The date 1803 honors the Lewis and Clark expedition. If it's any other coin, pleas post a new, separate question with its denomination. You can also look for questions like "What is the value of an 1803 US <coin name>?", e.g. "What is the value of an 1803 US large cent?"

Why does the Lewis and clark cheat on red dead redemption not stay on?

I used the cheat to turn into Jack and equipped the trench coat outfit... can't remember what one that was called... and then activated the Lewis and Clark cheat and it worked! Bridges built and all. I have to try again tonight to confirm that, but I am pretty positive that's how you get it to work :)
