Tesla and Edison became involved with this issue since Edison was working in the monopoly of the electric system based on his direct current system. Using direct current to light houses is more costly and dangerous that using alternant current. So, Tesla won the war.

If Edison had a needle to find in a haystack, he would proceed at once with the diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. ... I was a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety per cent of his labor.

In the War of Currents era in the late 1880s, George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison became adversaries due to Edison's promotion of direct current (DC) for electric power distribution against alternating current (AC) advocated by several European companies and Westinghouse Electric based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which had acquired many of the patents by Nikola Tesla.

How did Nikola Tesla rival Edison?

In the "War of Currents" era in the late 1880s, George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison became adversaries due to Edison's promotion of direct current (DC) for electric power distribution over alternating current (AC) advocated by Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla. Edison had major flaws in his DC machine. Tesla made it work right. Edison has the pattent. In few words looking back in time, research shows that Edison had his inventors working for him getting him the patents. Edison never had ideas like Tesla had.

Why did Tesla's alternating current system become the standard for providing electricity?

In the "War of Currents", George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison became adversaries due to Edison's promotion of direct current for electric power distribution over alternating current advocated by Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla. AC was and it is the best system.

Who are some of the people who worked with Nikola Tesla?

Some of his friends were Mark Twain,Robert Underwood Johnson,Katharine Underwood Johnson, and George Westinghouse.

What are Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla's similarity's?

Tesla and Edison went to history as inventors yet both had a different perseption in their work. Today's electricity is based in the invention of Nikola Tesla because alternate current is better than direct current. Edison got the patent on direct current engine wchich he could not make it work properly. Tesla fixed that when he was working for him. That is the last thing he did for him.

Who invented alternating currents and transformers?

Nikola Tesla invented AC, probably a transformer as well but don't quote that.
