While he wasn't enthused about the nations troubles being sorted out with bloodshed, he was deeply rooted to the cause of preserving the Union, which he was willing to fight for until the bitter end.
Abraham Lincoln's attitude towards the US Civil War was primarily focused on one major objective. He wanted to preserve the Union at all costs. All other attitudes or concerns of Lincoln were secondary to his main objective.
US President Lincoln was devastated by the Civil War. He never, nor had anyone else, thought that the war would bring on the staggering death toll of over 620,000 soldiers counting both sides. Lincoln knew that rebuilding and recovering from the Civil War would be very difficult. The bad feelings between the North and the South would be difficult to heal. He blamed both sides for the devastation, however, he believed that the solidification of the Union had to happen. Looking back he realized as did so many others that if the leaders of the South and the North knew how horrible the War would be that they would have worked out the issues that divided them. There is always an alternative to violence, especially if it involved people who were all Americans.
He opposed of it. He knew it was going to happen sooner of later, but he never wanted it to happen.
