This prosperous and prominent Boston silversmith helped to organize an intelligence and alarm system to keep watch on the British military. He was one of the ringleaders of the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773. His legendary "Midnight Ride" in 1775 immortalized him as an American Revolutionary Patriot, some 40 years after his death. He served in the Massachusetts militia as an officer. After the war, he returned to the silversmith trade, and in 1800 became the first American to successfully roll copper into sheets, which were used for the sheathing of naval vessels. So his main goal was to be a successful businessman, and ousting the British tyrannical rule of the time only shortly delayed him from that goal. His original silverware, engravings, and other works are highly regarded today.
