The phone wasn't invented until 1876, so NO ONE had phones in the 1700's. It took until the mid 1900's before the entire United States had phone service from the East to West coast. Just like computer access the infrastructure has to be built to get the service.

Very much non existant. The first telephone call was made on 10th March 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell in Boston. He spoke these words to his assisstant, Watson:

"Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."

No, phones were invented in the l1876 by Alexander Graham Bell and didn't really serve everyone until the mid 1900s.
