Picking cotton

EDIT:

You can't grow cotton in New England. The soil's terrible and half the year its too cold for anything to grow. There were no slaves used in Massachusetts in bulk, aside from a few exceptions scattered across the colony.

Edit: Actually Massachusetts was the first slave holding colony and around 1750 had the largest number of slaves of any of the colonies. Slavery was practised in Massachusetts for about 170 years. Slaves participated in all sorts of labor in this northern state. That labor included being house slaves (cooking, sewing, cleaning and the like, being groomsmen, porters, and carriage drivers, being skilled laborers and artisans, assisting in various businesses as well as working as being forced farm workers.

Edit: Actually, the North was highly agriculturalall the way up until the industrial revolution. It was only after the industrial revolution which began around 1780 in England and came to America a bit later, that the North became industrial.

Slaves were found in Massachusetts as early as 1624 and were used for every sort of labor from houshold work to skilled and unskiilled labor. By 1750 this state had the largest number of slaves of all of the Brittish Colonies.
