North # Larger Population # Financial Institutions # Factories # strong central government # Railways to transport goods and troops fast South # Fighting on their land # more determined # better military generals # more civilian military experience # European sympathies While the south had all the advantages and weaknesses of the Americans during the Revolution, their enemies were not an ocean away and was easier to communicate and control a war effort. Another problem the South had was their population, if they had the same population of the North there is a good chance that Lee could have continued fighting and won the war, but since it did not they could not sustain the heavy damages inflicted by Grant and his armies.
